Community Tolerance Reconciliation and Development (COTRAD) in Collaboration with Masvingo-based Theater Artist, Sabhuku Vharazipi, whose real name is David Mubaiwa, has lampooned perpetrators of political violence in the video footage. The video footage was produced in sync with the organization’s desire to promote peace and tolerance in the country. The six minute docudrama portrays how traditional leaders impose their political will on their subjects.
The involvement of traditional leaders into active politics is unconstitutional, dangerous and detrimental to democratic process. Section 281(2) of the Constitution of Zimbabwe clearly states that, traditional leaders must not participate in partisan politics. It is enshrined in section 67 of the Constitution that, every citizen has the right to make political choice freely- to form, to join and to peacefully participate in the activities of a political party or organization of their choice.
